DAVE THOMAS

"Through this study and subsequent experimentation, his style evolved to include the blending of realism and abstraction that is necessary to convey the subtle and ineffable concepts underlying his work"

Dave Thomas is a fine art painter residing in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Dave started his art career as a freelance artist, and quickly built a reputation as a skilled mural painter - taking on projects throughout North America and abroad, including clients such as Cabela’s Canada. However, artistically, his murals were just the tip of the ice berg. While building his mural business he was tenaciously pursuing fine art with what remained of his free time. With an impressive discipline that only comes from true intrinsic inspiration, he studied hundreds of diverse artists – devouring their work with an appreciation for their diverse styles, technical skills, conceptual approaches, and philosophies. Through this study and subsequent experimentation, his style evolved to include the blending of realism and abstraction that is necessary to convey the subtle and ineffable concepts underlying his work.
Dave currently focusses on oil paints and mixed media, with special attention to the blending of textured versus smooth translucent layers. His goal is to create an atmospheric abstract background in which his figures move in and out in a way that mirrors unpredictable, uncontrollable, and unstructured existential reality.
He has been involved in numerous shows in the Edmonton area. His recent solo show, The Unfinished Symphony, was hung at the Naess Gallery, and featured in the Edmonton Journals’ Art Pic.
